I was on my way to brunch in Manhattan when I walked past a man asking for money. I initially brushed it off and kept walking. But I was compelled for some reason to walk back. Maybe it was his appearance: Avirex bubble jacket, Big “B” chain, crooked teeth, etc. He reminded me of a mid-late 90’s era rapper I would have listened to back in the day. I walked back, gave him a buck and asked him if I could take his photo. “Yeah you can take my photo…you know any producers?”. I chuckled, “yeah…I know a couple”. What followed, completely unsolicited, was really long verse, at least 40 bars. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t good. It was appreciated though, if nothing else, for the fact that he gave me my moneys worth. His name was Born Justice.

Big thanks to my friend Nino for these photos. I met Nino a few weeks ago in Pullman at a show he photographed for us. We got together this weekend to talk about music, fashion and photography and took some photos of a few of my favorite winter pieces, in the process. Check out more of his photography work here!.

I’m a big fan of accessories, especially bracelets. When I was younger, my mom owned a boutique at the market where she sold, among other things, a wide range of handmade bracelets. I think it was growing up surrounded by things that were handmade that gave me an appreciation for them and the artists that make them. Amanda (pictured above), is designer and owner of LUXLA, a company that makes and sells their own bracelets. I own two of Luxla’s Hex Bracelets, in red/silver and black/silver and I wear them both regularly. The design is simple, crafted with leather and metal and looks great worn with anything. Check out more from LUXLA here.

A few shots from my most recent shoot with Koa. For our last shoot, we hit up the East and West Village. This time I wanted to switch it up so we hit up Chinatown. Totally different vibe but with results just as fresh. More photos coming soon. Jacket-Opening Ceremony, flannel button up-Uniqlo, pants-RRL, bracelets-(TAYLOR, King of Green Street, vintage find)
